Teambuilding
Voller encountered its second teambuilding event on 19th January 2007, the day was different in every way to the 2006 event and all participants thought even more fun.
The day started with a presentation from the CEO who then set a team task of naming our new product.
The fun then began - in four teams Red, Blue, Green and White, the activities of the day started. Archery and Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting were the most strenuous but very enjoyable, Falconry which was utterly amazing to have a falcon and barn own land on your hand and finally we encountered Geese Herding. This final event of the day was probably the most enjoyable to all. Each team member was given a border collie to herd a gaggle of geese though various obstacles, as the photographs show it was tremendous fun and the dogs adorable.
After changing clothes for a Scottish theme (kilts and sporrans all supplied) the 'Burns Evening' that followed began with whiskey tasting, dinner and presentations for the days activities, with the White team walking away with the prizes. After dinner Voller staged it's very own 'Weakest Link Game Show', 'Anne Robinson' was there (although most people thought it was our Financial Director sporting a very impressive ginger wig). The rest of the evening was spent dancing to the live band 'Silverfire' who were led by our CEO wearing a Rod Stewart wig and kilt.
Dragon Boat Racing for the Anthony Nolan Trust
Working at Voller Energy is also fun. In July 2006 Voller Energy raised a record ٣,603 for the leukimia charity the 'Anthony Nolan Trust' by participating in a dragon boat race. All the Voller Energy team had a wonderful day, but more importantly the amount raised means a chance of life for 80 people.
Voller Energy was awarded the trophy for the 'Best Fund Raiser' of the day. Our entry was called the 'Green Flashers' on account of our green t-shirts.
Participating in the races were Voller Energy employees, their partners, friends and family. Here is a record of the days events:
The racing was fantastic and the 4 races were very close on time:
Race 1 - Abby, Jamie, Mike R, Athol, Stephen, Emma, Jon, Jim, George, Martin and Sarah (Drummer)
Although a little apprehensive to climb in these very small narrow boats the first crew really got into the swing. There were 3 boats in each race, and crew 1 were faced with a daunting task to compete against the 2002 and 2004 Dragon Boat champions!. However, leaving the 3rd boat in their wake 'The Green Flashers' kept up with champions who began to steer into the flashers boat, paddling to shouts from the bank to take up ramming speed the flashers held their own and finished a creditable second with a time of 59.08 only .5 of a second slower than the champions.
Race 2 - Graeme, Mike R, Jon, Jamie, Mike C, Colin B, Geoff, Athol, Sorrel, George and Sarah
With the bit well and truly between her teeth Sarah is now not only drumming the beat for the paddlers but issuing verbal commands of encouragement! This certainly seemed to work as the crew won race 2 with a time of 59.95.
Race 3 - Martin, George, Mike R, Athol, Graeme, Geoff, Sorrel, Jim, Jamie, Abby and Sarah
Knowing with the previous times, if crew 3 paddled well we could get into the semi-finals, they launched into action and sped through the water getting the best time yet of 57.51, despite Abby slapping Jim with the paddle and Jim retaliating by soaking her thoroughly.
Race - 4 - Martin, George, Mike R, Athol, Graham, Geoff, Jon, Jim, Jamie, Abby and Sarah
It was decided to stick with the same crew as they were now really working as a team, only Jon replaced Sorrel for the last race before the final. Tensions were high on the bank as the 3 boats were neck and neck coming to the finishing line. It was a photograph finish but unfortunately the Flashers finished a very worthy third in a time of 58.22.
The crews then tucked into a deserved 'BBQ', cooked to perfection by Chris helped by Elliot and Scarlet.
The fitting end to a great fun day was being awarded with the 'Overall Winner' trophy which is a combination of points collected during the day for the fasted times in the races and the total money raised for the Anthony Nolan Trust.
Well done everybody, great fun day spent with great people.
